Golf Breaks FranceMy husband and I are both keen golfers, and have been for several years. This year we have decided to book our annual holiday early and go for a golf holidays. We both took it up initially because we wanted to be a bit more active, and it seemed like the perfect sport to try out as it is not too wearing but is so beneficial for your health.


Playing a round of golf normally means a few hours of pleasant walking outside, around five to six miles is normal, and it’s not difficult to pick up your walking pace just a small amount to bring your heart rate up. This is a great way to exercise regularly, and it significantly reduces your chances of contracting heart problems later in life. Playing golf  improves your muscle tone, and if you do play regularly can help you lose weight.


Having to focus on your game is a great way to relieve stress accumulated at work and at home, as it’s so much easier to switch off and relax when you have something else to think about. Not only will you feel better for the physical and mental exersise during the day – but it will also help you sleep better at night.

Mental attitude

We have both noticed that since we started playing golf, we have been much more positive in our general demeanor. Several people told us that they noticed a change within the first couple of weeks, which is actually the reason that we have decided to take a golfing holiday this year.

Hopefully the golfing holidays will give us the time we need to unwind, with nothing else to think about other than the scorecard and what’s for dinner after the final hole.

I’ve been hearing a lot recently about how excited people are getting over power bands. I thought they looked like a fad and probably did absolutely nothing at all, so to satisfy my curiosity and to back up my suspicions, I did some research and a lot of reading to see if I could find anything meaningful to help decide either way. There is a ton of information out there, and a lot of it is just marketing nonsense so I have tried to cut through all that for you to bring out the more useful facts.

The first thing I found out is that the whole point of these power bands is that they give out ‘negative ions’. These negative ions are supposedly linked to improving your mood, reducing depression an danger, reduce your stress levels and improve your breathing and therefore your blood circulation. Obviously all of these effects are associated with a lot of useless health products claiming to actively improve your health and lifestyle while actually being nothing more than a placebo.

So as you can easily imagine, I thought that all the product hype just sounded a like a lot of marketing trash and buzzwords. However, I found that there have been genuine scientific trials into their effects, which do lend real credibility to the positive effect of negative ions, and therefore power bands on your mood and stress levels.

I was further reassured when I discovered that negative ions actually are completely natural and are most commonly found in places with bright sunlight, running water like rivers or streams and around plants and other foliage. The power bands are designed to incorporate the elements from these natural sources into a bracelet.

So, in short, I’m converted – the scientific proof was enough for me. You should have a look yourself, there are several studies on the subject when you start digging.

It’s been a long time coming, but I have decided that I finally need to take the plunge and start blogging. I now have my own health blog!

The topic of health has become somewhat of an obsession in my life. Though I am not a medical professional in any way, I love reading other blogs and websites online on the topic of health.

I am fascinated by the fact that so much information is available online. Rightly or wrongly I now consult Google and other health websites for minor health related questions before even contacting the doctor in any way!

I find it so interesting to read other health blogs, weight loss blogs, alternative medicine blogs, etc.

So, here on my very shiny new blog, I will be talking about some of the interesting things I am reading and thinking about. The topics of these will vary, mostly depending on what interests me at the time and what is topical. After all, the media are always jumping on some kind of health related topic!

However, before I get started I must stress:
